WORKING GROUPS

For the year 2024, working groups will be created to focus on the initiatives of two of the pillars in particular: DC ecosystem and Education.

DC Ecosystem

Connectivity

Network Infrastructure: Facilitate partnerships with telecommunications providers to enhance and expand terrestrial and submarine networks connectivity, ensuring high-speed and reliable communication capabilities for data centers.

International Connectivity: Foster collaborations to improve international connectivity, promoting Portugal as a strategic hub for data exchange and communication. Improve the backbone and cross border network to complement the existing domestic network great capillarity and helping provide solutions to the challenges.

Promote the development of networks that facilitate the availability of redundant cabling routes, improving the redundancy routes and eliminating vulnerabilities on high concentration traffic routes. Promote Neutral Interconnection Centers to facilitate the distribution of content between a variety of networks.

Promote the development of new network topologies to address the new data patterns, today distributed by content providers.

Power

Energy Efficiency: Implement technologies and practices that optimize energy usage, reduce environmental impact, and enhance overall efficiency.

Resilience: Ensure power redundancy, backup systems, and disaster recovery plans to maintain uninterrupted operations during power disruptions.

Renewable Energy Integration: Promote the adoption of sustainable energy sources to reduce the carbon footprint and align with environmental sustainability goals.

Identify and streamline processes present solutions to the SoS of Energy

Regulatory Framework

Compliance: Work with regulatory bodies to establish and maintain a supportive legal framework for data centers, addressing issues such as data privacy, security, and industry standards.

Incentives: Advocate for policies that encourage investment in data center infrastructure, including tax incentives, grants, and other forms of support to stimulate growth.

Identify and promote improvements to the digital infrastructure fiscal framework

Identification of regulatory obstacles

Host in Portugal

Identify and highlight the conditions that makes Portugal an excellent region for colocation, delivering a “Why Portugal” whitepaper.

Make available for the industry, namely builders, operators and consultancy firms market intelligence with a set of information that helps and assures the decision making process.

Take the steps to create a One Stop Shop to streamline the permitting process.
Create an Industry brand that promotes colocation in Portugal.

Organize and develop events, white papers, articles, Group conferences to promote the brand and thus the country.

Education

Industry Education

Professional Development Programs: Establish industry-specific training programs and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of professionals working within the data center sector.

Certification Programs: Collaborate with relevant organizations to create certification programs that validate the expertise of individuals in various aspects of data center management, including design, operations, and security.

Upskilling

Continuous Learning Initiatives: Promote a culture of continuous learning within the data center industry by encouraging professionals to stay updated on emerging technologies, best practices, and industry trends.

Cross-Training Opportunities: Facilitate opportunities for professionals to acquire new skills and competencies outside their immediate expertise, fostering a more versatile and adaptable workforce.

Universities Collaboration

Curriculum Development: Work closely with universities to develop specialized curricula that align with the evolving needs of the data center industry, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped with relevant skills.

Research Collaborations: Foster partnerships between data center industry experts and university research departments to encourage innovation, exploration of new technologies, and the development of cutting-edge solutions.
