The new Portugal Data Centre Association (PortugalDC) is created with the aim of developing the sector in the country

Portugal has joined a group of countries that already have a data center association.

Globally, behind a large pool of data center companies are industry-representative associations bringing together professionals, companies, and experts involved in the design, construction, operation, and management of state-of-the-art facilities. These associations support the development of the industry and its stakeholders by representing their interests and concerns.

The Portugal Data Centre Association (PortugalDC), created last August, has as its main focus to provide a clear vision of the current data center environment across the country and as objectives to foster innovation, improve connectivity, promote sustainable development, ensure data security and develop talent within the country’s growing digital infrastructure.

The initial group was formed by Luís Duarte – Head of Facilities Management and Core Real Estate at SIBS, Rita Lourenço – Iberia Critical Power Sales Manager at Legrand Data Center Solutions, Jorge Mouta – Head of Mission Critical Data Center at SIBS, Tomás Fuzil – Head of Real Estate Management at SIBS, Carlos Paulino – Managing Director at Equinix Portugal and Fabíola Bordino former Head of Sustainability, Marketing and Communication at Start Campus.

“This association marks a significant milestone in our country’s digital infrastructure,” Fabíola Bordino said. “Together, we’ll advance innovation, connectivity, energy, sustainable development, data security and talent. I’m honoured to be part of this great association and to be at the forefront shaping the future of data centres in Portugal and Europe.”

Benefits of data centre associations

Data centre associations often play a vital role in promoting collaboration, sustainability and professionalism as well as advancing industry practices and addressing challenges faced in the industry, including the likes of energy efficiency, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

Providing a platform for advocacy and innovation, they advocate for industry best practice in their domain and influence the likes of regulation and best practice with ideas that can be adopted elsewhere, shaping the future of the industry.
